Stories From The Mosh Pit...and the back seat of the house

Whether moshing at the front of  a few hundred fellow fans in a sweaty rock club, or standing on your tip toes at the back of  a stadium, concerts, gigs and shows (same thing?) come in many shapes and sizes...

Dublin. 2010. June. Wednesday. 9am. Waiting for a job interview...

Six hours previously I had been finishing my last pint of Guinness after seeing Slash live at a great venue in Dublin called Vicar Street. Now as I sat there in reception I started to wonder where my career was going. The interview I was to have was for a job I didn't want, so why bother?

What I really needed to do was write a book about my concert experiences. After all many years of gig going had brought up a lot of stories and people might find them interesting. Yes, believe it or not, this did all go through my mind...admittedly I may not have been thinking with a clear head. Anyone viewing the scene would have noticed a man with obvious alcohol sweats, the beads of which gradually dripped down his face, the smell of Guinness barely hidden by the extra strong mints he was crushing between his teeth.

Surprisingly I didn't get the job however the book idea stuck. I started sorting my concert tickets (I am geeky enough to have kept them all) and gradually put a list together of the gigs I have attended since 1989, 250 in 25 years as of December 2014, not amazing by any means but not too shabby either. Each gig, without fail, brought back memories...some great and some not so great.

This site and the book that will follow are about a bald headed, gig going, music obsessed, vinyl loving, average Joe who has attended a few decades of concerts and has stories to tell. From falling over in a Guns n Roses mosh pit, to seeing a grown man lose his last bit of dignity whilst watching the Stones on a hot day in Paris.

See you in the 'pit' very soon....
