#95 Hothouse Flowers @ Dublin Voodoo Lounge (December 23rd 2003)

Support: N/A

Drinking a lot before or at a concert is usually a bad idea. In fact it is one of my pet hates....Of course as always with definite rules there are exceptions. The exception for me happened in Dublin (where else) in the build up to the Christmas of 2003. On that particular day The Hothouse Flowers were shooting the video for their new single at a great venue called

#94 Frames @ Dublin Olympia Theatre (December 17th 2003)

Support: Unknown

Always good seeing The Frames who in the years since this gig have gained more support through the success of Glen Hansard's appearance and songs in the film Once. At this gig though they were purely an Irish treasure.

The Frames are a band that always put in hard work and tonight was no different paying off as

#92 David Bowie @ Dublin Point Theatre (November 22nd 2003)

Support: The Dandy Warhols

Support from The Dandy Warhols (although I only caught half their set) was a good way to start the evening.

Top gig from Bowie. One and only time seeing him apart from a few songs (and the Lord's Prayer!) at the Freddie Mercury concert in 1992. An inspirational man and tonight he played 28 songs to give serious

#91 Stereophonics @ Dublin Point Theatre (November 3rd 2003)

Support: JJ72

A solid gig from the lads from Wales, this despite sacking drummer Stuart Cable just two months before. A long gig from a band that always gives 100% effort. I had seen them before this gig and went on to see them after and they were probably better on those other occasions. There was nothing particular wrong with this concert but

#90 Rolling Stones @ Dublin Point Theatre (September 9th 2003)

Support: N/A

Managed to get last minute tickets to see the Stones play in Dublin's main concert arena. After the highs of the Twickenham gig the month before I was thrilled to be able to get to see the band in an arena. The gig was great as would be expected and we even got to see Andrea Corr join the band for a duet on Wild Horses. However the

#89 Rolling Stones @ London Twickenham Stadium (August 24th 2003)

Support: Starsailor

Sooooo I had broken up with the girlfriend (Caoimhe) just over two months before this gig and as a result had a spare ticket. I offered it to a female work friend. She was a huge music fan and loved the Stones and was obviously delighted at the unexpected opportunity....not for long though. You see I wrongly presumed that myself and Caoimhe

#88 R.E.M. @ Dublin Marlay Park (July 17th 2003)

Support: Starsailor / Ruby Horse

Super concert from R.E.M. with one of the best encores I have had the pleasure of seeing: Everybody Hurts / Great Beyond Country Feedback Imitation of Life / It's the End of the World as We Know It. Everyone a classic. Best way to leave a gig is on a high and those five songs certainly enabled that to happen.

#87 Witnness Festival @ Punchestown Racecourse (July 13th 2003)

Line Up: David Gray / Flaming Lips / Frames / The Cardigans / Kings Of Leon

Memories from this festival weekend are as follows:

  1. Avoided the girl who I had started seeing. That relationship didn't last long. Saying she would have sex with me but would have to be drunk first didn't help!
  2. Saw one of my favourite artists, David Gray headline. Some idiot threw a plastic bottle

#86 Witnness Festival @ Punchestown Racecourse (July 12th 2003)

Line Up: Coldplay / Damien Rice / Supergrass / Sugababes / The Thrills / Appleton / Complete Stone Roses

Memories from this festival weekend are as follows:

  1. Camped for the first time. Came back to my tent after the first night. Random bloke was asleep in it. Swore I would never camp again.

#85 Bruce Springsteen @ Dublin RDS Arena (May 31st 2003)

Support: N/A

Bruce rarely plays Born in the USA so when he wandered on stage just after 7.30pm on a sunny May's evening in Dublin and started playing the song acoustically....pretty unreal. Unfortunately Caoimhe had disappeared again to the toilet and so missed this and another couple of songs for that matter. To be fair to her she wasn't alone. I thought most people were

#84 Def Leppard @ Dublin Ambassador Theatre (February 10th 2003)

Support: Ricky Warwick

Some bands are made for the big stage and Def Leppard are definitely one of those. I have seen them in arenas and stadiums and it is there where they belong not small venues like the Ambassador. Great venue though it is I think it's not an environment that brings out the best in the band.
