#128 Christina Aguilera @ Dublin Point Theatre (November 21st 2006)

Support: Unknown

Ok, ok I know. I have even less street cred now that I admit to going to a Christina Aguilera concert. Do I care? In a word; No. I like the music I like and have never really worried too much about that. Being a big Queen fan has never been the coolest thing in the world even back in my school days so I have got used to people taking the piss out of my music taste. I do admit however that in this case there was a slight attraction to the artist in question.

#127 Beautiful South @ Dublin Point Theatre (September 30th 2006)

Support: Unknown

Two gigs in two days gets harder as you get older but tonight it didn't matter as I finally got to see local heroes Beautiful South for the first time. I say local as being from Hull it is that city that the band is always associated with.

Went along to the gig with a female friend and we both enjoyed it. The Point Theatre was never a great venue for sound but it didn’t stop me having a good

#126 Cult @ Dublin Ambassador Theatre (September 29th 2006)

Support: Unknown

Gig was moved from Red Box to The Ambassador which I was happy about as the latter is good venue for a rock gig. A really cool sloping floor which gives everyone a good view of the stage. I hear they aren't going to use it for gigs any more. Shame as it is one of the better venues in Dublin (of which there are many).

Great gig from The Cult who were now really just Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy. Opening with Lil' Devil and closing with She

#125 Morrissey @ Dublin Marlay Park (August 22nd 2006)

Support: Magic Numbers / Dandy Warhols

Missed the Dandy Warhols and arrived in time to see most of The Magic Numbers set. Pleasant sounding band but probably not best suited to an outdoor sound. Their sound was nothing spectacular, nothing that excited me too much but I can see the appeal.

#124 Raconteurs @ Dublin Olympia Theatre (August 21st 2006)

Support: Unknown

Never got to see The White Stripes live unfortunately but the excellent Raconteurs fronted by Jack White and Brendan Benson were a great substitute. Jack would hate me saying that...'substitute'. They are a completely different band of course and produced an outstanding debut album in 2006 which myself and concert buddies Pat and Sinead had on continuous loop at the time.

#123 Snow Patrol @ Dublin Marlay Park (August 19th 2006)

Support: Futureheads / Republic Of Loose

Marlay Park is not a great venue for gigs. I've seen some excellent bands there and it always leaves me thinking that they would be better at another venue. It’s not that it’s particularly terrible, just a little soulless.

Tonight myself and concert buddy, Pat didn't get to see either of the support acts. A shame as

#122 Gemma Hayes @ Dublin Village (July 6th 2006)

Support: Joe Chester

This was my first experience live of the wonderfully talented Gemma Hayes. The Irish singer / songwriter had first gained success with the 2002 album Night On My Side but it was 2005 before I became aware of her. After living five years in Ireland I had begun to see how many talented artists there where in the country. Bands such as the Frames and the Hothouse

#121 Depeche Mode @ Dublin Point Theatre (June 26th 2006)

Support: Unknown

My concert buddy on this occasion was big in to the band and it was he that persuaded me to go. He had given me an insight on what they were likely to play and as with the Weezer gig the year before I had managed to get a probable set list burnt for me. In this case I had no real expectations on the concert. Didn't really know what to

#120 Metallica @ Download Festival Dublin RDS Arena (June 11th 2006)

Support: Avenged Sevenfold / Alice in Chains / Special Guest: Jerry Cantrell

Second night of the first, and as it turned out only, Irish Download festival. It didn't feel like a festival unfortunately especially with having a night off in between gigs. No matter though as tonight was another cracking show. My very first full Metallica gig (I had seen them 14 years previously at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert). Went with a couple of friends and

#119 Guns N Roses @ Download Festival Dublin RDS Arena (June 9th 2006)

Support: Funeral For A Friend / Bullet For My Valentine / Special Guest: Sebastian Bach

Bringing the Download Festival over to Ireland was a great idea in theory but mistakes were made with the line-up and the venue. As a result this was to be the first and last Download in Ireland.

Some of the decisions that were made seemed particularly odd:

#118 Bon Jovi @ Dublin Croke Park (May 20th 2006)

Support: Nickleback

It's a Bon Jovi gig so you know it's gonna be good but tonight was memorable for a whole host of reasons....the chief one being that I went with a new girlfriend; Lorraine. We had only being going out for a month and this was the first gig with her....would she pass my gig tests? Yes and No...
