#232 David Gray @ London Emmanuel Centre (February 5th 2014)

Support: Lisa O'Neill

First gig of the year for me and my 232nd overall (but who’s counting). Having been to my fair share of gigs it is always nice to go to a different venue. Tonight was a bonus as it certainly wasn’t your typical setting for a gig. The Grade II listed Emmanuel Centre doesn’t look much from the outside but once inside you could tell it was a special place. Having said that the seats (pews?) were hard, the seat numbers may as well have been non-existent and we were sat right at the back. Despite all that there were two things that made it great. #198 Lir / David Gray / Pugwash @ Dublin Vicar Street (September 24th 2011)

Line Up: LiR / David Gray / Pugwash

Labelled ‘With A Little Help From Our Friends’, tonight's gig was a benefit concert for the band LiR. They are in need of financial help to fight a court case taken by their former manager over a US tour in 1995 ( has taken many years for it to come to the

#174 David Gray @ Dublin O2 Arena (December 19th 2009)

Support: Regina Spektor

Firstly it was great to see David back at the Point (oh ok the O2 Arena) last night. Secondly it was one of the best concerts I have been to in years. And we lucky people that were there and didn't race off after the encore (never mind those that started leaving after the main set...silly people) were in for a real treat.

#139 David Gray @ Dublin National Stadium (November 17th 2007)

Support: David Gray (!)

It has to be said that I love David Gray. Have seen him quite a few times before tonight but this will go down as one of the best. Just six months prior to this I had seen him at Dublin Castle. Yes it was a scenic venue but probably not right for David playing an acoustic set. Tonight's gig was

#117 David Gray @ Dublin Point Theatre (December 1st 2005)

Support: Unknown

Went with Matt, a guy I have only been to a few gigs with. I won’t say I had to beg him to go but on this particular occasion there weren’t many takers to accompany me. He has similar enough taste in music which always helps but I’m always nervous when I go to a gig with someone that may not be that familiar with an artist’s music. I need not have worried though as Mr Gray was on sparkling form as usual.

#87 Witnness Festival @ Punchestown Racecourse (July 13th 2003)

Line Up: David Gray / Flaming Lips / Frames / The Cardigans / Kings Of Leon

Memories from this festival weekend are as follows:

  1. Avoided the girl who I had started seeing. That relationship didn't last long. Saying she would have sex with me but would have to be drunk first didn't help!
  2. Saw one of my favourite artists, David Gray headline. Some idiot threw a plastic bottle

#82 David Gray @ Dublin Point Theatre (November 14th 2002)

I love, love, love David Gray. He seems to split opinion greatly but for me he is a multi talented artist who may not cool by any means but so what. Cool is for fools. Like what you like and stuff the rest.

This was my third time seeing him and from the opening strains of the The Other Side, with the stage curtain coming down to

#73 David Gray @ Sheffield University Octagon Centre (October 16th 2000)

Support: The Czars

Having been introduced to the music of Mr Gray by my then girlfriend Fiona over in Ireland I couldn't wait to see him live again, this time in the much smaller Octagon in Sheffield. None of my friends had any interest in David Gray (then or now) but I managed to persuade my eldest brother to come along with me (somewhat reluctantly). This was

#70 Witnness Festival @ Ratoath Fairyhouse Racecourse (August 5th 2000)

Line Up: David Gray / Ocean Colour Scene etc

After my wife had left on April Fool's Day the previous year I was pretty much rock bottom. I really threw myself into work. Luckily for me my then job enabled me to travel to Ireland a few times a year. It was there in May 2000 that I met a gorgeous Irish lassie by the name of Fiona. She worked for the Irish branch of my employers and very kindly
